Edithvale, Chelsea and Bonbeach Station VICTORIA

The redevelopment of Edithvale, Chelsea and Bonbeach stations along Melbourne’s Frankston line formed part of the Level Crossing Removal Project’s initiative to eliminate five dangerous crossings and reconnect coastal communities.

The design by COX Architecture embraced the stations’ beachside locations whilst balancing complex site constraints. The lighting scheme by WSP sought to complement the architecture and deliver a high-performance lighting solution that ensured wayfinding and safety.

Buckford Illumination Group realised this intent by supplying WE-EF LIGHTING and Xero Linear Lighting Systems. Selected for their precise optical control, marine-grade durability, and visual comfort, WE-EF luminaires provide consistent, glare-controlled illumination. The Xero linear profiles installed throughout deliver effective illumination and seamlessly integrate with the station’s unique design.

The result is a series of welcoming station precincts that enhance connectivity and strengthen community identity whilst achieving 6 and 5-star Green Star ratings. In recognition of the lighting design, WSP received an IES VIC/TAS Award of Commendation. The project demonstrates how thoughtful design and quality luminaires can shape safe, sustainable and visually distinctive public spaces.
