MONA Extension

MEGS Lighting

Described by its owner David Walsh as “A subversive adult Disneyland”, the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in Hobart, Tasmania, has been called many things since its opening in 2011.

At heart, MONA is a world-renowned art collection that doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s a place to explore exhibitions but also enjoy live music, bars and restaurants, even use a library or recording studio.

Since the inception of MONA, Buckford has supplied ERCO luminaires across the complex. The museum’s unconventional approach to exhibitions required innovative and flexible lighting solutions. Those were realised with versatile Parscan spotlights with different track solutions from pendant hi-trac tracks to singlets. Outdoors, Tesis in-ground luminaires are used to illuminate a playground, accentuating it as an artwork whilst providing guidance and orientation.
